A few years ago the government introduced the Pet Passport Scheme. This scheme enabled dogs and cats to come into the UK without having to spend six months in quarantine. Many of you used this scheme to travel abroad with your pets or to return to the UK after working overseas.
From 1st January 2012 the scheme will be significantly simplified. The government have removed the need to have a blood sample taken four weeks after the rabies vaccine has been administered and have reduced the period of time which the pet can return to the UK from six months after the passport has been issued to three weeks. A number of additional non European countries have been added to the list of allowed countries.
These changes make the scheme much simpler and cheaper. If you would like to discuss the pet passport scheme please contact the practice and speak to one of the vets.
